I think it is a great idea! I take my two girls all the time in the summer...we have a trailer but a tent is no big deal.
I do however take 2 of my portable fold up playpens...and when they are not in that I keep them on a leash....just in case!
Make sure they are on Frontline or what ever you use so they don't pick up fleas or ticks...I am not sure if ticks are a problem in your area or even a problem this time of year but its best to be safe!
