We took Mika camping in August, she was just 5 months old. We had a fab time! At night she slept in her collapsible crate with her very own sleeping bag (inside the tent of course!) When not walking around we attached a plastic coated wire runner lead to a metal ground screw so she had a bit of freedom without the danger!
