He had surgery to repair a perineal hernia. It was an opening that allowed his bladder and some intestines to wander where they didn't belong, to a big bulge next to his butt. It started out as a small bump but grew over 2 years. He didn't appear to be in any pain because of it, so the vet advised against surgery at first. In the end, it got painful and I took him in for what amounted to emergency surgery.
