I'll be thinking of him and praying for a speedy recovery. I had a collapsed lung about 7 years ago (I had just turned 30 years old). They called it "spontaneous pneumothorax" meaning basically it "collapsed for no reason". Turns out I was born with these "blebs" (kinda like little blisters) on my lungs and it took 30 years for one to pop. This happens more often with newborns because the bleb will pop right after birth. I was told it's not all that uncommon and that it usually happens to "young, thin, healthy (usually) males although sometimes females". Well, I didn't really consider myself "young" anymore but they did. They tried to fix it with a chest tube but when that didn't inflate it, they had to do surgery and staple the blebs. Long recuperation but I am fine now (although they don't know if the other lung has these blebs too).
Sorry to be so long, but if your son is going through something similar (and you didn't say yet WHY his lung collapsed), I thought you might want to ask me some questions. I'd be more than happy to answer any you might have for me. I know my family was at a total loss as to why this happened to me out of the blue and once they started telling people, they heard of other people having this and were able to talk to some and get more info and understand it better. Let me know if I can help.
