Well here it goes. I own a farm and we raise miniature sheep. NORMALLY sheep do not get tapeworms. However, one year ours did, after our regular routine worming s throughout the year. Worm free with the exception of tape worms. We were confused. Our vet said that due to our "visiting neighbors dogs" they more than likely were bitten by fleas-as they spread tape worms.
Not sure if fleas are "breed specific" or if different types of fleas can spread different types of tapeworms. Just an idea, as safeguard cured our sheep with three days worth of treatment-worked very fast.
I wonder, could the fleas on the cats you said may have spread worms? I don't know if fleas can spread other types of worms, I will definitely be researching more on this topic.
Hope all went well for your baby. I do know the shock and worry of discovering the worm problem when you feel you have been very proactive in a treatment plan for the unrelenting parasite control program.
Take care,
Jessica
