Well I found that CET chews worked great for my mini poodle and she loved them and it breath smells good. But that was about 1 yr ago. Now I started using Petzlife gel for the last 3 months and the tarter has soften up nicely. So I spent $2 and got me one of those mini teeth picks from Walmart and the girls have let me scrap their teeth. I have gotten off chunks of tarter. My thought was that I would get off as much as possible and then get a dental if I needed to, that way they would not be under so long.
