Yep, they use it as a surgical scrub too, sometimes for everyone, sometimes just for those allergic to iodine (who they can't use betadine on).

The vet gave it to me to scrub the broken hair follicles where the kitten's ring worm was. He said the ringworm's eggs (maybe? I think that's right) get in the broken off hair and that they're the hardest part to get rid of. I had to do that every day plus use lamisil after dosing her with oral diflucan didn't work. It was not much fun.... So, apparently Chlorhexadine kills bacteria and fungi too. I think it basically kills whatever germs of any kind are there.
