Maybe the driver was afraid to get out of the car since mama bear was probably lurking near by and willing to make a meal of him since her cub was injurred/dead. In all honesty, if you hit a wild animal in your car and there is NOTHING you can do for it...what exactly would be the point in stopping?
Nevertheless, that is a very sad story.
