I have been experiencing the same thing lately. Humps would go to sleep only to wake up after an hour or so and start screaming like a banshee... and he sleeps in a little pet carrier by our bed (DH would divorce me if I let Humps in bed with us).
Since I know DH has to wake up super early to go to work I've resorted to waking up, letting him out and taking him with me to the living room, I already have a pillow and a blanket there so I just cuddle him on the sofa, until he falls in deep sleep and then I just grab him and put him in bed. He is usually too tired to put up a fight by then, but it can be very tiring... Good luck!
