You never said whether you had the surgery done.
If you didn't, and if it was just a sprain, then it sounds like the leg is already pretty good if he's being active after getting his cast off. He might just need to strengthen it after not using it for a couple weeks. It should be good in a week.
If you did opt for the surgery or if the leg was broken, I wouldn't let him exercise the leg too much, and would certainly not let him jump down from furniture.
