It sure is possible. Leathers that are colored are dyed, and he could be allergic to the dye. It's also possible that something in the leather treating process could be irritating him. I personally don' like collars, and would suggest a harness for walking, so that you don't do any damage to the trachea, even that I only use for walks. If you want something for tags, or to display a charm those break-away colors for cats are very narrow and much safer.
