I line my belly bands with a sanitary pad too. I buy the thick long ones and cut them in half and use half at a time. I change it every so many hours, almost like checking a baby for a dirty diaper and change if need be :P Max's hair is never smelly or full of pee. I give him a bath every weekend and it works out perfectly. Good luck!
