I think that quote is too high even with the liver function test and the bloodwork. It seems out vets are on the high end for a c-section but they do not charge $500 for this.
I do highly recommend complete blood work before any anesthesia is used and will not let a vet put any of mine under without it. I think this vet is smart to recommend it.
