Love Im new here, wanted to introduce myself and "Addison" our rescue yorkie

We were lucky enough to adopt Addison on October 17th from a wonderful rescue group. He was apparently abused and pulled out of the environment by Animal Control. I for the life of me can not understand why anyone would ever want to harm an animal, much less such a small sweet natured boy such as our Addison. We were told he is a yorkie, one year old. He came home and has the most gentle yet playful temperament. He sleeps in his crate at night by my bedside. (one of the hardest things I have ever had to do!) but he simply nestles in and falls asleep quickly, as long as he sees me near. He never leaves my side during wdaking hours. Has decided he can share my lap with my cat, but cannot seem to figure out why the cat doesnt show as much excitement as he does when playing.

He has only had one accident in the house so far. He loved the bath we gave him and has yet to show any agression in any form.We bought an infant hair brush and comb, not real effective but wanted to start him be as gentle as we could during our transition, he doesnt seem to mind being groomed at all. We had the neighbor boys visit us (age 10 & 12) upon walking down our long driveway, Addison began barking and became very excited. For a moment my husband and I wondered if he would become agressive, but no, he ran as fast as his little legs would carry him, once they approached him and literally jumped into ones arms. He adores children, Im guessing he had children in his life prior to us and they must of been his "happy place".

I have had a dog as a companion my entire life. But I must admit, all were larger breeds. My parents showed Great Danes when I was young and we always have shared our home with the larger breeds. Upon my parents retirement they adopted two toy poodles (neutered males) from rescue groups. This opened my life up to the smaller breeds. There simply is nothing better than a lap dog to cuddle with and ease of traveling (we are both retired also). My husband had a yorkie for 12 years as a young boy. This baby has been a perfect fit for our world.

My husband isnt positive he is a yorkie (due to his size) he feels he may be a silkie. He is 9 inches tall and 9 lbs now. He also has a silky wavy coat. I am not sure if it will grow out but he does seem to have gained some length in the 10 days we have had him. Of course his "purebred" status makes no difference to us at all, he has won our hearts and I now find myself worrying about his wellbeing all the time and I cannot imagine ever losing him.

I am certainly very glad to have found this group as I am a true newbie to the yorkie breed and I imagine I will have many questions in the future. I uploaded some photos of my little boy in the photo area.

Thanking all of you in advance for the advice and support, this seems like a genuinely warm forum full of comradre.
