Also, ignore, ignore, ignore ! the barking and crying. If you respond in any way this will reinforce the behavior that you are trying to stop. I know it's difficult, our girls will sometimes yipe & cry when we first put them in their crate at night. We, as difficult as it is, will just ignore them and it usually ends within 15 minutes. They then realize that their yipes & crying is getting them nothing, so they stop and settle in for a comfy night's sleep. Also, during the day we put our clock-radio on for them to keep them company. But, I do work from home with my In-Home daycare business in the lower level of our home and they can hear the noise downstairs, as well. But, I still put the radio on for them. Hope this helps.

I agree. It's definitely a difficult process, but the results are worth it. When I first began using the crate for my yorkie, it was definitely a difficult and stressful time, but she did eventually get used to it. I started off by having her in a different room, but then I eventually moved the crate into my bedroom so she could see that I was in the room with her. That seemed to help a little bit. Everytime I left the house, I also put the radio on for her (and still do) Good luck!
