Using a smaller male for your female is a misnomer, since breeding yorkies is unlike other breeds, where you breed pheno type to pheno type.......What is more important is knowing the lines/pedigree of the stud and the dam......In other words, what is behind each dog. You should be looking at your female very critically and what you would like to improve upon....find a male that would best compliment her.
The best thing to do before you breed is take some breeding and genetic classes. Dr. Carmen Bataglia has some great Seminars.....
