I would definitely go with a bell on the door! I myself am currently trying to get my little serial barker's habit in hand before he drives me nuts...
I do remember when he was a baby and my roommate and I thought it was SOOOOO cute when he barked. Now I wish I could've gone back to that first day and said "No Bark!"
