I am not familiar with that shot exactly, but as long as you brush your dogs teeth a few times a week they should be fine. Even the yearly checkups aren't required unless there is a lot of tartar, as it is risky to the dog with anesthesia.

Although this is not really about the specific topic, I feel it is important. I believe they need distemper and parvovirus only, and rabies if it is required in your area. By giving them extra shots it only harms them and doesn't do anything positive for your dog. "Your vet may not have told you this, but vaccination requirements have changed drastically.
