One problem I see with leaving a very young and small puppy unattended is the chance for them to become hypoglycemic. Since both you and your husband work full time, I would get a puppy that is at least 16 weeks old.
After it's had all it's vaccinations, I think doggy day care is a good idea
It will help socialize the puppy, help release all that puppy energy and I think just make for a happier puppy.
