I'm lucky with my job because it's right next to my house. So i can go at lunchtime and let Tyke out and take him for a walk. Right now he has a bedroom to himself. We have his food, water and pee pad in there with his toys. There is a baby gate in the doorway, so if we come in and out he can see us and we talk to him and tell him we'll be back in a little while. It's also all tile floor, so easy clean up. He only goes in the carrier at night when it's bedtime. this seems to work for us. If you can't give him a room, then i would suggest the xpen also. it gives them more space and not the feeling of so confined. hope this helps
