When you go to work where and what do you leave your pup? My husband and I are both currently unemployed and looking for full time work. Because we are not working right now, we are home with Roxy pretty much all day long. If we have had to go somewhere for long periods of time (ie: the mall, relatives place, etc) or if we know she's not tired we will take her with us in her carrier bag - which she loves. Problem is I think we've spolied her, and now she is used to coming with us most places. When we're at home and my husband or I leaves the room Roxy will sit and look at the door and whine. If we both have to go out and we have to leave her we will put her in her little crate and hope for the best. My husband left once and I pretended to leave with him, but I was really just sleeping in out bedroom. Roxy barked and cried for about 5 mins and then stopped. She was fine for the rest of the hour and a bit while my husband was out. This morning we tried the same thing and she wouldn't stop barking for over half an hour, and because we live in a Condo and don't want to get kicked out I had to come in and stop her from crying. My main question is how do we get her used to us leaving her home alone, especially for longer periods of time. Once we both start working during the day she will be alone pretty much all day, except during the lunch hour when my husband is planning on coming home and walking/playing with her. Also, what should I leave her in during longer periods of time when we're away? Right now she's in her crate when we're not home or at night, but I've had others express that I should not be leaving her in her crate all day long too, which I understand, but I just don't want to move her to a bigger pen during the day and have her not feel safe, and therefore bark even more.
Help what should we do? I really love my little girl and want to do the right things for her. I also want to make sure we don't get kicked out of our condo if she barks too much while we're away!
What did you all do when you had to leave your young puppies all day long. I don't think that we should have to limit our life style so much that we are restricted to only going out an hour or to at the most.... |
