well your picking up his plate and putting it down is really only adding to the problem.. he doesn't care yout ake it away because he knows you'll bring it back. When you are eating he needs to be in another room or in his crate in another room. Then when you are done let him in and then give him his food. It sounds like you free feed which is ok but if you are in control of the food he knows where it is coming from and that it isn't just "free". It puts you in control... just something to think about.
