It can work out, but occasionally it won't. Three is sometimes called "a crowd" and it can be quite a problem for the other two dogs if the new dog decided she/he does not like the current pecking order. Aggression can rear it's ugly head, and you will end up having to constantly separate or cage the offending dog. Personalities are very difficult to assess in a puppy, and most breeders will add a clause in their contract stating that incompatibility with other family pets is not a reason for return. If you do decide to get a new addition, then look for a pup that is a little more laid back than it's litter-mates. |
