To me, it really depends how much time you have to train your little yorkie. You'll have to go through the potty training, teaching commands, manners, etc. As you know, this does require a lot of work.

If you were to get the 3 year old yorkie, you most likely will not have to worry about these things. Perhaps the one thing might be separation anxiety or upset to be in a new place after 3 years being with its current owner. Personally, I don't understand how someone could give a dog up that they have had for 3 years, but that is just my opinion. To be an optomist, at least you would be giving this 3 year old a great new home and you'll be able to spend many years with him/her!
