First of all let me say congratulations on getting him back. I know from experience how awful those three months were for you.
How did the police end up getting your dog? Did the friend's family turn him in or did the person who found him? Did you ever find out who was the original person was that had your dog?
In regards to pressing charges... I don't know if it's worth it to you personally to go after them. I'm just thinking what a horrible 3 months you have already had and what you would have to put yourself threw if you pressed charges and go threw the whole legal process. They can be very long and drawn out not to mention could be costly to you.
I guess your first step would be to see if the police intend do press any charges. If not, find out what legal stance you have. Then make your decision at this point.
