Default i really need your help.

hi everyone, i just want to warn you that this post might be a bit long, but i truly need your opinions and words of guidance. so if you have the time, please advise.

about three month ago, my boyfriend posted up a thread on yorkietalk.com. the thread was about our missing yorkie and how eventually it got stolen. ill give a brief overview so you guys will have a better understanding.

our yorkie ran away when one of our roommates forgot to close the front door. he had a dog tag but wasn't microchipped. the dog tag had his name and our phone number. when he went missing a private number called us and told us they were going to give him back to us after they got off work (which was 5 or 6). i asked for their number several time but they would change the subject and asked me to describe my dog. they were very reluctant. on the third attempt for their number, they hung up on me. when 5 o clock came, i heard absolutely nothing. no calls. NOTHING. the day after, my boyfriend i went to the police station and filed a report. it has been about three months since our yorkie went missing.

today, is my birthday. and out of the blue the detective called us and told us that they had a present! we came there and found out that our yorkie was found and they had him! i was soooooo happy and was hysterical!

but this is where the sad part came in. the detective told us that the person who took our yorkie, gave them away to their friend and their friend's family has gotten extremely attach to him. the person that took our yorkie ruined two lives, ours (when we lost him, and i was an emotional wreck) and the family that was innocently involved (the family had a little boy that grew very attach to my yorkie and rename him).

we are very happy and grateful that we have him back. that alone was the best birthday gift possible. but here is the question. i want to press charges. i want them to accept the consequences to their actions. but i dont know if i should. or should i let it go? but if i let it go, will the police department do something? i want them to understand that they CANNOT do this ever, ever, ever, again. i would never wish this upon anyone. i was devastated, heart-broken, stress and could barely eat, for three months because of this.

please, i just need some guidance.
