One reason I wouldn't use it as toothpaste is that dogs hate the taste. It's hard enough to brush their teeth with toothpaste they love, but with something they hate, it would be a real battle. It is said to work best if you leave a coating of it on with no food given 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. It coats the teeth and is said to soften the tartar allowing you to brush it away at another time. Applying it with a toothbrush may be what they mean, but I apply it with my finger. Petzlife does contain alcohol, and some people believe that no alcohol should be given, but in small amounts it isn't harmful, and you need a tiny amount if you are just applying it to the teeth, and not brushing with it. Some people are afraid of the grape seed extract, because of the resent warnings of raisins and grapes, however grape seed extract is not toxic, and is used to treat allergies. I'm just wondering iif you used it like a toothpaste he swallowed too much, thus making him sick?
