I can't say that I remember actually making a decision to get a Yorkie. I've always favored Shih Tsu's. I had an adorable Shih Tsu I named, Mopsy, and she was a perfect dog. She was white with a little black around her face. She had a lot of health problems. First, she jumped off a bed at the dogsitters and dislocated her knee. That resulted in surgery. Then she got Valley Fever. We pulled her through that with lots of meds. Finally, she got liver cancer, and I watched her slowly dying, the tumor growing, and living on pain meds. We had just lost her best friend, Sam the Beagle, and she was depressed which added to her pain.

I have always preferred white dogs. But for some reason, I decided to adopt Roxy, a darling reddish Yorkie, to keep Mopsy company. She was 5 years old, and a bit big for a Yorkie. She was attached to my husband and vice versa. She was Ms. Personality. A little dog with a lot of verve and fun.

When Mopsy died, we got Scooter from the same breeder. Scooter was only a year old and totally different from Rox. They looked totally different, too. Scooter was tiny. She was quiet and subdued.

The two dogs got along so well, and were pals. And then, Roxy was stung by a bee and died. We were all devastated -- Mom, Dad and Scooter. Scooter went into a shell, and mourned. So, again from the same breeder, we got Jilly. Jill looks like Roxy. But Scooter didn't take to her at all. They are totally different in disposition. Scooter is quiet; Jill is a barker. Scooter stays to herself; Jill sticks to me like glue. Scooter doesn't like to be "loved;" Jilly likes to be cuddled and petted; and Scooter is passive; Jilly is aggressive. Scooter hides out in the shower area of the master bath. I'm not sure Scooter is happy. I know Jilly is, because she shows me she's happy.

I adore both dogs. I know what they're thinking, I know them so well. My only disappointment is that Scooter doesn't like Jilly. I'm not sure she ever came out of mourning from Roxy's death. Actually, we all still miss Roxy.
