Joey's breeder gave me a little bone shaped pillow, and said to use it only for grooming. I have a rather large toothbrush that I stroke his forehead with, and he lies right down on the pillow. Then I do the topknot. This link gives some good tips on placing a topknot, and she uses two bands which are really helpful when they are a puppy.
