TO the ones doing the berating:
Until you walk a mile in another's shoes, then you cannot possibly know what they are going through. I, for one, am ashamed at all of you for making this man's pain all that much worse, by looking down your noses at him for letting this poor, injured, IN SEVERE PAIN baby go. How dare you?!?! Often times, things are typed on a forum without any regard to the HUMAN BEING at the receiving end.
As far as rescues go, while they do good work, and most of the time are making things better for an animal, sometimes they waste resources on an animal that is only going to be in pain and suffer for the rest of it's life. Crushed hips, to me, sound like a lifetime of agony, no matter how many surgeries and drugs are utilized to keep the animal going. I would never want one of my babies to go through all that, and the OP is NOT selfish for not wanting his baby to suffer forever, either.
Really, we all need to think, before putting fingers to keyboard, on whether what we want to say REALLY matters, if it's going to help someone. This poor baby is already gone, so why jump all over this poor man when his heart is broken
