To the OP, this makes me so sad, I hope you rethink your attitude should you ever decide to get another pet. If you can't properly care for them due to finances or time constraints, re-homing must always be considered. While nobody should ever take this lightly, you should always love your pet enough to consider this. I agree with the others, the vet would not have offered this suggestion, if the quality of life would have been poor, and your dog was still very young so he had a good chance of recovery.

I realize this situation is done and over, but please reconsider this, and know in order to really love something else; you have to step outside your own needs. I am really sorry for your loss, I'm just asking that you to consider this.
