Hi Ducky:

Welcome to yorkietalk and congratulations on your new baby! It is so exciting having a new baby! There is no love like yorkie love, and you are in for a real treat!

I have three babies - ages four, two, and six months. My youngest baby has large ears and I had to tape them for a few days and I am pleased to say that her ears are now up all the time! I decided to remedy her ears because they are larger, and I wanted them up because yorkies are so prone to ear infection. In fact, she did have double ear infections when I brought her home. But getting those ears up, pulling the inside hair, and a round of treatment and she has been infection free since then! The thought of taping her ears was a little scary, but it did not hurt her and she really didn't seem to mind at all. The tape came right off and it didn't pull her hair or anything. I used blue painter's tape.

If you decide to tape your baby's ears, here's a link for a great how to:

Yorkie Maltese Products and Bows: Grooming Instructions

This site had great pictures - it was like "grooming for dummies" and I really needed the visuals! Someone else posted about shaving the ears before taping them, which is an important step.

My two year old has "floppy ears" and I have never done anything about it. I love the way she looks, and the ears add to her personality!

It's great to have you here. I've found a lot of useful information and am very excited about meeting folks that are as obsessed with their dogs as I am with mine!

Can't wait to see pictures of your new baby!
