I'm not sure if vinegar actually gets rid of the proteins that cause the dogs to return to the spot. Vinegar is a great cleaner, and is a neutralizer which will neutralize, many smells, but the way the enzyme cleaners work is that they contain a special bacteria, or enzyme, which actually "eats" the protein in the urine, which causes the dog to return to the spot. I know some people use it, but it didn't prevent Joey from returning to the spot.
