Autism, Mercury, Tuna I was reading ya'll's posts on the autism, mercury and tuna. I found a website supporting the evidence of the link between autism, tuna and mercury needing to be urgently studied. Here is a clip from the website: Pregnant women who eat tuna could be putting their unborn children at risk of developing autism, according to research by US scientists. At a hearing in Washington, researchers said they believed high levels of mercury in oily fish, including tuna and swordfish, could be behind the rising incidence of child autism. Mady Hornig, an epidemiologist at Columbia University in New York, who was giving evidence to a panel of the Institute of Medicine, which advises the US Government on health, said the effects of mercury in fish should be urgently investigated. However, there are no limits on other fish, including canned tuna, the standards body said. Canned tuna contains much lower mercury levels because a different and younger species is harvested.
Hope this helps! |
