The aggression definitely is a game changer. It sounds like timing was the main contributing factor....1) you brought together two brand new puppies, one was in your home for a week, the other for a day both were already under stress adjusting to a major change in their enviroment. 2) Drake is 7 months (how old is Buddy?) hormones start coming in around 6 months so they are already going to be prone to aggression.
I think that in time or at another time you would have had a better result with the two dogs. You're wise to let Buddy adjust.
Did Drake come from a good environment...a caring breeder? Why was she giving him away for free...maybe he has a history of agression??? If your sister keeps him, in time he and Buddy may get along.
Another thing to consider Yorkies are VERY territorial, so when they initially meet a future sibling it should be in a neutral area like a park. Start them out by going on a walk together before bringing them home. The walk releases pent up energy, relaxes them and help them share and bond in a pleasant experience. Good luck. |
Buddy is 2 years old. So he is not a pup at all. Drake was. She said she was giving him away because she could not give him love and care he needed. She only had him 2.5 months and paid $300 for a pure breed. I don't know if there was anything she was hiding, like aggression or if the breeder was reputable or what not. Sometimes people hide things, when they can't handle them. Maybe it was too much for her and she just wanted him out asap.
He was not mean towards me, but did nip at my hubby a few times and of course Buddy, but I think he may have either been neglected to much and that could have caused aggression and his behavior or something happened at the breeding. For her to give him away so quick is odd and $300 for a pure breed is CHEEP!
But you can already tell that Buddy is back to himself. He is so much calmer, relaxed and back to being the great friendly dog he is!
