The scent doesn't really linger in the air once the vauum is off (I wish it did). I'm using tea tree right now because I like it but I know a lot of people think it smells too medicinal. I've used rosemary and lavender together and also grapefruit and bergamot. I'd just use whatever smells good to you. I use around 6 drops.
Another thing I thought of is I used to have a vacuum that had a flat filter and I replaced it with a folded dryer sheet. That worked well too but you have to have the right kind of filter to do it.
