Have you read the Anita Blake, vampire hunter novels or the books by Charlaine Harris? Both series are written for adults and are very good I thought.
If you like series geared towards teens, try Holly Black. She has several books out now. Her stories are about dark and light fairies. I thought they were interesting. In fact, I just bought her newest book and I will be starting to read it today.
