it may be partly just a supply/demand issue.

one breeder told me that people people overwhelmingly ask her for more girls that boys. Most often b/c they can be dressed up, but also b/c some people think that girls can be more easily housetrained or are more affectionate (which we know isn't necessary true -- dogs have different personalities and out little boys can also be dressed to the nines!)
