Afraid I dont have any real advice to give you, just wanted to give you a reply as I know how hard it is when nobody does! lol

I cant see an issue with a six year old, only if you wanted a puppy then you will be missing out on all that comes with a younger dog. I guess you could introduce the two dogs and see how they get on?
