Maybe Chips hair isn't cottony, there's a third type called wooly that is coarse and more wirery, and some dogs have mixtures of the different types. When I use CM, I always wash it out, but it does come in handy occasionally.

One thing about using human shampoos even baby shampoos, since human hair and skin have a much higher acid content than that of canine skin and hair, human products can over time, have a very drying effect on skin and hair. It's not something you'll notice right away, but over time, leave the hair looking fried. You might want to read the grooming forum for favorite shampoo products. I have tried many and have been relatively pleased with all I've tried, but my favorite so far are the products made by the Biogroom company.
