Lipase and amylase are really not accurate at all for pancreatitis as my boy almost died of pancreatitis and when he felt good the lipase and amylase were high and vice versa when he felt bad. This is when i realized it means really nothing . The true test for pancreatitis is CPLI AND TLI which is most accurate even more so than ultrasound. My dermatologist also said in vet school they pretty much threw those two out on a blood test as they meant nothing.
Treat the dog not the blood work. IF it was pancreatitis your dog would be vomitting alot and/or diarhea.
I would not be concerned at all about this but i would have a pre and post bile acid done if you have not had that done as due to the high numbers on my dee dee the vet wanted that checked out for some reason and she was mvd which is not a problem just low protein diet.
These dogs need to have a low fat diet as they have a high fat content in their blood stream which makes them susceptible to pancreatitis so i only treat with organic chicken and organic steamed carrots.
If you want to rule out pancreatitis then they can do the cpli and tli add on with next blood draw to rule it out. Beef is high in fat so stick to chicken as a lean protein as well as fish -- maybe do natural balance fish and sweet potato as a low fat diet. |
