This is a pet peeve of many people, but you may be interested to know that this is not a recent thing, and has been going on over a thousand years. The letter X in the Greek alphabet stands for Chi, which stands for Christ. Early Roman Catholic priests wrote out "X", which means "Christ", and "mas" which means "mass". It wasn't meant as taking Christ out of Christmas. However, few people know that, and it still bother me when stores do this, but now they won't even say Christmas trees or Xmas trees, they say "Holliday trees, and I are refuse to purchase from stores who dishonor Christmas in this way.
