I've read of many reputable breeders doing this because it's the only way the can ensure that their dogs won't be used for breeding. Now that all these alternative registries have popped up, they will register any dog, and you don't have to have any proof of breeding rights, so some breeders see this as their only option. I think it's a darn shame good breeders have to go to such drastic measures, to insure their dogs won't be bred. You will find some vets who think this is perfectly safe, and some who are against it. I haven't personally made a decision, on the safety, but I don't think you should distrust the breeder because she does this, in fact, just the opposite. |
