Most reputable breeders have their own studs. Most reputable breeders will seek out a stud that will compliment their female and pretty much line breed their dogs.
But yes, you're right.....a full health should be done.....eye & ears tested, shunt, x-ray of hips, legs should be preformed; actually OFA'd would be preferable. Heart checked as well as cleared from any STDs.

Yes, MArdelin is correct - all of what she mention should be tested/completed on your dog to check if he is healthy. But besides being of excellent health - you should also be sure he measures up to our standard.
