Actually it's seven months before you can stud your dog and you can register the pups with AKC.

Most reputable breeders have their own studs. Most reputable breeders will seek out a stud that will compliment their female and pretty much line breed their dogs.

But yes, you're right.....a full health should be done.....eye & ears tested, shunt, x-ray of hips, legs should be preformed; actually OFA'd would be preferable. Heart checked as well as cleared from any STDs.
