I think there may be an adjustment period for Bud, but in time he'll adjust. Since you can supervise them, and help them adjust to each other, it will make things easier on both.

My arthritic 12 year old had a very bad reaction when I brought home the pup. I couldn't believe how the older one ran, hid, cowered, and started drooling uncontrollably. However, in about 3 or 4 weeks he got over it. The pup is dominant, several month later, and sometimes bullies the older one or maybe it's just play. I think the older one is just too old and arthritic to deal with a pup literally in his face, that wants to play. Now they peacefully coexist, but don't play together.

Again, it seems like the age difference, you are looking at, is in your favor. Plus I think the two males will be a good match.

Wait and see what others have to say. I'm far from an expert.
