with your question on velcro, it is best to have them in full closure when washing as it is possible gunk could get in there which reduces its strength
I know often times I forget to do that with my Tiger's BB and when I do it repetitively, it affects the outcome of its function . . .hope this helps you when you do decide to buy a new one . .
