Maybe I missed it but I don't remember reading anywhere in the article that having a litter would reduce any health risks. Having a litter in its self brings up many additional health risks like ruptured uterus and eclampsia which can also be life threatening. I just feel that it is best to wait until females are more mature before having them spayed. By waiting until after the first heat pet owners do have to take every precaution to ensure that the female does not get bred.
