In my opinion I would not recommend breeding her at her age. She would likely have more difficultly giving birth and the possibility of complications could be greater. I certainly think it would be wise to get her spayed because intact females as they get older are more susceptible to getting pyometra, which could be life threatening. |
This is a very good article! Thanks for the link! We are thinking about if and when we'll have Minnie and Mikki spayed.
Minnie has her first heat right now and when I read the article I learned it is best to wait with the spaying until she is physically mature. She was scheduled to be spayed for today but her heat came in between. Even though we have her since about 6 weeks we couldn't take her earlier b/c she was in such a bad health condition (emaciated, hook worms...)
Now I think it was a good thing and we will wait with Mikki too until she had her 1st heat.
