Roxy had to have her 2 front teeth pulled as they were infected at the root and trying to infect the other teeth near by. She also had to have 2 bottom teeth pulled (the ones in-front of her fangs) as they were in the same situation as the 2 top ones. She had a few baby teeth remaining that were pulled. And finally her side 'chewing' tooth was pulled because it was actually an 'abnormal tooth' - it didn't have a root that went straight to the bone, and she had a HUGE cyst connected to it, so that had to get drained and cleaned out....

My poor baby...she is on antib's and pain meds....

I also got some insight on dental care. No toothpaste is required, it is only for taste for the dog. The Petz for Life is BS and it contains so much alcohol that our little ones can get drunk - fast....He said dogs have their own powerful enzymes in their mouth that kill bacteria. He is working on a toothpaste though that would actually be beneficial. But in the meantime, DAILY brushing (with just a toothbrush) is the BEST
Were you using Petzlife? For how long? How many times a week, and did you also brush? The company says that Petzlife only softens tartar; you still need to brush it away. As far as toothpaste being unnecessary, while that may be true, since Joey loves the taste of his poultry flavored toothpaste he doesn't fight me so much when brushing. I've got to say this is just one's vet's opinion and in the meantime he's working on toothpaste he thinks is good, and this makes me think he may be money motivated. I think the benefits of Petzlife outweigh the risks when you consider how risky anesthesia is.
